As the Mopa airport's inauguration date nears, the clamour for naming the airport is growing louder. The Bhausaheb Bandodkar International Airport Namkaran Samiti wants Mopa airport to be named after him. Some of the speakers objected to the airport being named after former Defence Minister & Ex-Chief Minister of Goa, the late Manohar Parrikar. Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the airport on 11 December 2022 and the local BJP has recommended to the centre that the airport be named after Parrikar.
