Calangute Police Swiftly Apprehend Chain-Snatching Gang: Stolen Gold Chains Recovered

In a recent incident, the Calangute Police successfully nabbed four individuals who were involved in snatching a gold chain from a tourist visiting Goa. The incident took place early in the morning on December 21, 2023. The victim, Santhosha H.A. from Karnataka, was near Little Goa Restaurant in Calangute when four unknown persons snatched his mobile phone, Rs. 19,000 in cash and the two gold chains he was wearing, totalling approximately Rs. 1,95,000.

Following the incident, the Calangute Police Station formed teams to investigate and apprehend the culprits. The teams, led by PSI Akshay Parsekar, gathered intelligence and identified the accused individuals as Morsalin, Raju Molla, Akthar Ali, and Rakiful Mondal—all from Dakshin Dinajpur, West Bengal. The police found two broken gold chains in their possession.

The accused individuals were taken to the Calangute Police Station, where they admitted to their involvement in the crime. The stolen property, two gold chains valued at Rs. 1,60,000, was recovered and attached under the Panchanama. The investigation is ongoing to recover the remaining stolen property.

A case has been registered by the Calangute Police under various sections of the Indian Penal Code in response to Mr. Santhosha's complaint. The arrested individuals are being presented before the Hon’ble JMFC Mapusa to obtain police remand.
