A cargo truck from hailing Karnataka to Goa engulfed in
flames in front of the forest department check post gate at Mole on Wednesday
Late night. The loss of the Cargo truck is estimated at around Rs 5-6 lakh. The
incident occurred around 11:30 pm, with the fire rapidly consuming the truck's
contents before the Ponda fire brigade arrived.
The Loaded cargo truck was on its journey towards Goa when
the driver noticed smoke emanating from behind while passing through Anmod
Ghat. Initially assuming it to be a tire issue, the driver proceeded to Mole
Gate, only to find a blaze raging at the vehicle's rear.
Efforts to douse the fire began immediately, with police
personnel stationed at the checkpoint utilizing water from a nearby forest
department tanker. Despite their efforts, the intensity of the flames continued
to rise until the arrival of the Ponda fire brigade approximately thirty
minutes later.
With the combined efforts of police, forest department
personnel, and firefighters, the blaze was eventually brought under control.
However, goods valued at approximately Rs 5-6 lakh were lost in the fire.
Collem Police Station's Sub-Inspector Sadanand Desai and
Constables Gauresh Sangodkar, Dhulo Shengdi, and Sandeep Naik, along with Anand
Gawde from the Forest Department, and Constable Santosh Gawkar and others from
the Ponda Fire Brigade, played crucial roles in extinguishing the fire and
managing the situation effectively.
