PORVORIM: The Fisheries Dept has submitted before the High Court of Bombay at Goa that trawlers be allowed to have 150KVA generators. The government lawyers made his submission before the court on Monday. The case has been ongoing for some time and will continue tomorrow, Tuesday.
The Goenchea Ramponkarancho Ekvott said 150 KVA generator is not required to power devices except the high voltage LED bulbs. There are huge fleets of industrial trawlers in Maharashtra and Gujarat. If 150 KVA generators are allowed in another six months to one year, the fish catch along the Arabian Sea will be destroyed.
Traditional fishermen will have to become like farmers. Two or three farmers commit suicide every day. Fishermen will have to do the same.
