Every year on December 8th, the vibrant city of Panjim comes alive to celebrate the feast of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception at the iconic church, the first built in Goa in 1541. This joyous occasion is marked by a nine-day novena, dazzling decorations, and a lively fair that transforms Church Square into a bustling hub of festivities.

The lead-up to the feast involves a nine-day novena, with the church adorned in a mesmerizing display of lights. The ceiling is strung with blue and white flowers, harmonizing with the colour scheme of the church and paying homage to Our Lady. The celebration culminates in a grand feast mass, followed by a candle-lit procession and a spectacular fireworks display against the canvas of the night sky.

The festivities extend to a lively fair where visitors can explore stalls offering miniature statuettes, souvenirs, garments, and a variety of delicious food and drinks. The atmosphere is further elevated by the tunes of a brass band, playing festive mandos and fados.

The feast of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church is a cherished tradition that brings together locals and visitors alike in a celebration of faith, culture, and community spirit. As the church stands tall on the hill, overlooking the city, it truly earns its title as the crown of Panjim, a beacon of spiritual and cultural significance. This annual event continues to be a highlight, attracting people from far and near, capturing the essence of Goa's rich heritage.
