In line with Election Commission of India (ECI) guidelines, the office of the Chief Electoral Officer conducted inspections of polling booths in South Goa to ensure accessibility for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs).

Dedicated to fostering an inclusive electoral process, the Commission aims to establish equal access for PwDs, emphasizing responsiveness, respect, and dignity. This initiative seeks to bolster confidence among PwDs and enhance their electoral participation through improved service offerings.

The inspections aimed to verify the availability of essential facilities for PwDs, including permanent ramps, accessible toilets, tactile guidance, transportation, adequate lighting, water supply, and the provision of Assured Minimum Facilities at each booth.

The inspection team visited several booths across South Goa, including Government Primary School Khandepar, Ravindra Bhavan Margao, and MES College Zuari Nagar Vasco. They identified various accessibility issues and recommended changes to ensure ease of access for PwDs.

Comprising representatives such as Taha Haaziq, State PwD Icon, Sudesh Gaude, State Nodal Officer for Accessible Election, Vishant Nagvekar, and Patric Desouza, both PwD representatives, along with officials from Social Welfare and district Nodal Officers, the inspection team collaborated to address accessibility concerns.

This comprehensive effort included participation from Saglani President of Gujarati Samaj Special School Margao, NGO representatives, and officials from the Public Works Department, reinforcing the commitment to make electoral processes more inclusive and accessible for all citizens.
