Goenchea Ramponkarancho Ekvott and villagers of Velsao have said that a viral video calling for the emptying of the village pond citing the excuse that the pond is polluted has been done after doing “setting” with the railways. The South Western Railways are responsible for blocking water leading to flooding of the pond. Under the excuse of pollution, they want to empty the pond so that RVNL double-tracking work can be carried out. No villagers or fishermen who depend on the pond for their livelihood have been consulted. Those who appear in the video are toddy tappers and cattle owners, fishermen alleged.

Velsao villagers depend on the Pond for fish and for livelihood. It is emptied only once a year. Under the excuse that it is polluted the viral video is seeking to empty the pond to help railway double tracking, fishermen alleged.  Our fight is to stop double tracking. This is a fight to save Goa and stop coal pollution coming into Goa, they said.
