At approximately 19:30 hrs on April 17, 2024, an accident took place near the Patradevi Border Check Post. According to reports, an Eco van, travelling towards Banda, collided with a two-wheeler. The impact also caused the van to collide with another two-wheeler before crashing into the rear of a truck.

The collision resulted in injuries to the driver and occupants of the vehicles involved. Prompt emergency response teams shifted the injured to the nearest hospital for medical attention. The injured were subsequently transferred to the Goa Medical College (GMC) in Bambolim for further treatment.

Tragically, during the investigation, it was revealed that one of the injured individuals, identified as Kantilal Vithal Shinde, aged 47 and a resident of Shindewasti, PO Vadebholhai, District Pune, Maharashtra succumbed to his injuries at the Primary Health Center (PHC) in Banda.

Ex-Sarpanch Torse Panchayat, “Around 7.45 p.m. there was a loud thud of a tyre bursting. So I and neighbouring people came running to see what happened. We saw that the van had hit the truck after colliding with the two-wheeler. There were 3 women and 5 children inside the vehicle who were wailing loudly. We got the women and children out of the vehicle. 2 children were severely injured and 1 woman was injured so badly that both her legs were fractured. The people from Torse and neighbouring areas came together to help the victims immediately.”

While expressing rage towards the slow pace of the local law enforcement, the ex Sarpanch stated, “The most saddening part of the incident was that the police arrived very late. We had filed numerous requests to the officials to deploy some police personnel at the Patradevi outpost. The Mopa Police Station is too far from us. We desperately need a police station and fire brigade here, so that such incidents can be tackled immediately.”
