In a bid to honor the essence of Panjim and foster community spirit, residents of St. Tome and Fonthainhas are banding together to organize the Fest do Povo. This vibrant event aims to bring together te young and old to celebrate the distinctiveness of the area. One of the focal points of this festivity is the culinary showcase, where the local women of Sao Tome are eagerly preparing to display their culinary expertise.
Antonette Jorge, a resident of Sao Tome, expressed the community's enthusiasm, stating, "We cherish celebrations accompanied by delightful food and music." This sentiment resonated with Avita D’Souza, another active member from Sao Tome, who highlighted the eagerness of the local women to exhibit their culinary finesse. "Our ladies are eager to demonstrate their culinary skills," Avita shared, emphasizing the preparation of exquisite Goan dishes.
Amidst the festival's plan to feature international cuisines, both Antonette and Avita exuded confidence in the unique appeal of Goan food. "The richness of Goan cuisine is unmatched; tourists flock to Goa for a taste of our authentic flavors. Our sorpotel, sanna, stew, and desserts are irresistible," Antonette affirmed. Avita echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the unmissable nature of Goan desserts like dodol and bebinca, alongside savory delights such as rissois and croquettes.
Distinguishing itself from other celebrations, this festival promises to be grander in scale within the ward, promising a more extensive community participation.
Excitement brimmed among the locals as they shared their anticipation for a large turnout. "We hope for a substantial crowd that appreciates our culinary offerings," expressed Antonette optimistically.
Avita highlighted the festive atmosphere, promising great music to complement the delectable spread. "Local bands will serenade the gathering with traditional tunes, creating a delightful ambience for savouring our cuisine," she added, emphasising the fusion of music and food to enhance the festival experience.
