The office of the Speaker, Goa Assembly, issued notices to former Congress MLAs Digambar Kamat and Michael Lobo in a disqualification petition filed by Congress President Amit Patkar against the two in July 2022. The hearing before the Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar has been fixed on December 16, 2022, at the Goa Assembly.

Congress, in a petition filed before speaker Ramesh Tawadkar, accused the two of working with the BJP to break away two-thirds of its MLAs in July 2022. GPCC President Amit Patkar acknowledged that there was a vertical split among its MLAs but said Kamat and Lobo could not manage the numbers. In July 2022 Congress managed to block the defections such that the MLA could not get the required number of MLAs to avoid the Anti defection law. On 14th September 2022,  8 Congress MLAs out of 11 joined the BJP including Digambar Kamat and Michael Lobo.
