As Goa gears up for its upcoming elections, the state's electoral authorities have released a detailed statement on the status of postal ballots for absentee voters in the two parliamentary constituencies of North Goa and South Goa.

According to the statement, a total of 4,271 postal ballots have been approved by the Returning Officer for absentee voters in the South Goa constituency. This includes 2,365 ballots for voters aged 85 and above, 1,118 for Persons with Disabilities (PWD), and 788 for COVID-19 suspect or affected voters.

In the North Goa constituency, the total number of approved postal ballots for absentee voters stands at 4,672. This comprises 2,291 ballots for those aged 85 and above, 928 for PWD, and 1,453 for COVID-19 suspect or affected voters.

The statement further reveals that as of April 29th, 2024, the electoral authorities in South Goa have received a total of 1,271 postal ballots, with 807 received from the 85+ category and 464 from the PWD category. No postal ballots have been received yet from the COVID-19 suspect or affected voters.

In the North Goa constituency, the electoral authorities have received a total of 1,041 postal ballots as of the same date, with 741 received from the 85+ category and 300 from the PWD category. No postal ballots have been received yet from the COVID-19 suspect or affected voters in North Goa.

These figures underscore the importance of the postal ballot system in ensuring the democratic participation of absentee voters, particularly those who are elderly, disabled, or impacted by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The electoral authorities have emphasized their commitment to ensuring a free, fair, and inclusive electoral process in Goa.
