PANJIM: The Goa Governor P. S. Sreedharan Pillai has scaled down the Independence day party and is contributing Rs 6 lakh to the Kerala Chief Minister’s Relief fund for Wayanad victims. He said His Excellency would also donate Rs 2 lakh from Governor’s fund to the Kerala Chief Minister’s fund. He disclosed this while flagging off the Street Providence relief material truck with aid for Wayanad Landslide victims.

“Every year we have an at home programme (on Indepedence Day) where we provide good food. This year we have not decided to cancel the programme, since it’s a national day. But this time a festive party is not there, through that we can save Rs 6 lakh and through that we are providing to the Kerala Chief Minister’s Relief Fund and from Governor’s Fund also I am giving Rs 2 lakh additionally. So as far as possible we are cooperation and that is the tradition of our country. Whenever such things happen, even as in Manipur, people support is required,” His Excellency PS Sreedharan Pillai told media, on Tuesday.

Bosco George, former DIG and volunteer of Street Providence said, “Based on the appeals from Kerala, Street Providence is sending a truck filled with 300 bedsheets, 300 mats, 300 towels, 2,000 organic sanitary pads and various ration items. This is just our first lot. It is very encouraging that many other institutions have got in touch with us to raise funds and material, so that we can give it to the people of Wayanad.”

Mario Cordeiro, volunteer of Street Providence, is travelling with the team. “It is a great opportunity to reach out to the people of Wayanad, through the people of Goa, who have donated to help the people in need and who are facing tough times.”
