The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted heavy rainfall and thunderstorms over the northeastern region of the country whereas heat waves and dry weather prevailed in the southern region of the country.

On Sunday heavy rains accompanied by hailstorms wreaked havoc in various parts of Manipur. Officials reported significant damage to several houses in areas such as Canchipur and Tera in Imphal West, where hailstones caused holes in tin roofs. Additionally, videos shared online depicted strong winds blowing away hutments in different areas.

Speaking on the weather forecast, the Met Department has issued an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rains in several Northeastern states, including Manipur, till May 7.

In the midst of this, Chief Minister N Biren Singh declared that all educational institutions would be closed through May 7th due to the state's ongoing extreme weather. The Chief Minister stated in a post on X that the action was taken as a preventative step against the threats presented by the current weather. In the wake of the hailstorm that affected numerous locations, the CM also released helpline numbers.

On the other hand, from May 7 to May 9, strong rains are predicted to lash over coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema in the north and south, ending the current heat wave condition that has swept over these regions. According to an IMD Amaravathi report, there is a chance of isolated areas of heavy rainfall in Andhra Pradesh's north and south coast as well as Rayalaseema. There may be a thunderstorm in the area, along with lightning and blustery gusts that can reach 40 to 50 mph. Similarly, remote locations over the aforementioned areas were similarly prone to experience hot, muggy, and uncomfortable weather.
