A woman hailing from Kolhapur, Maharashtra, embroiled in a family dispute with her husband, took a drastic step by selling her one-year-old daughter to a couple in Goa for a sum of Rs 1 lakh.
The child's father, lodged a complaint with the local police in the early hours of Wednesday, prompting swift action from law enforcement. Subsequently, a case was registered against five individuals allegedly involved in the despicable transaction.
The accused have been identified as Poonam Dilip Dhenge (25), the mother of the infant, her accomplice Sachin Annappa Kondekar (40) from Shahapur, and Kiran Ganapathi Patil (30), suspected to have facilitated the sale. Additionally, the Goa-based couple, Fatima Fernandes and Jerry Paul Noronha, who purportedly purchased the child, were also implicated in the case.
Promptly responding to the complaint, the police conducted a thorough investigation, leading to the arrest of the woman, her friend, and the intermediary allegedly involved in orchestrating the transaction. Moreover the police have even apprehended the Goa couple, who were involved in purchasing the child.
