PANJIM: National Highway 66 landslide at Naibag-Poraskade, in Pernem has not been cleared even after over one month has passed. The highway witnessed three landslides, causing concerns and massive losses for interstate truck drivers. The truck drivers have expressed serious concern since they are stranded on the highway with no way out as the highway is still blocked with boulders and soil.
The vehicles use the old highway which is narrow and causes congestion. The container trucks find it very tough to negotiate the road and danger of accidents is lurking.
The highway witnessed three landslides, causing concerns and massive losses for interstate truck drivers. One boulder fell in front of a car, and another bounced inches above the car. The occupants of the car had a miraculous escape. The highway has been blocked since.
Social Activist Xencor Polji who visited the spot said, “Due to the shoddy work by MVR construction, the landslide occurred and the wall built by MVR collapsed. Because of this they have diverted the heavy vehicles towards the old highway. I wish to tell the Union Minister Nitin Gadkari that for the past about one and half month, no work of clearing the highway has started.”
“You have given thousands of crores to Goa govt, have you questioned where this money has gone? They have done cheap quality development. Even the link road to Mopa airport which you inaugurated was flooded with knee deep water. Vehicles could not pass. So you can think what type of development, this government has done,”Polji stated.
