The National Students' Union of India (NSUI) Goa delegation made a significant appeal to Governor P. S. Sreedharan Pillai on Thursday, urging him to retain Ordinance OA-25 concerning challenge evaluation in Goa University examinations. The delegation emphasized the importance of preserving this ordinance to uphold students' rights and academic integrity.

Challenge Evaluation enables students to request a review of their examination papers if they suspect errors or discrepancies in the grading process. The NSUI highlighted the ordinance OA-25 as a vital mechanism for addressing potential injustices in examination corrections, particularly in professional fields like Engineering, Medicine, and Law.

Additionally, they have also demanded to reduce the current fees for challenge evaluation which stands at Rs 5000 per paper to a reasonable amount of Rs 1250-1500 per paper. This adjustment aims to ensure equitable access to the evaluation process for all students.

Furthermore, the NSUI raised concerns about averaging marks when two teachers assess a paper, suggesting that this method often results in lower grades for students. They called for the removal of this approach and proposed awarding the higher score of the two evaluations to reflect students' true performance accurately.

Governor Pillai responded positively to the NSUI's concerns and pledged to engage with the Vice-Chancellor of Goa University on the matter. NSUI Goa Chief Naushad Chaudhari expressed confidence that the Governor would address the issue and inquire about the rationale behind abolishing the crucial ordinance.
