Prohibitory Order Issued by District Magistrate Ahead of Polls in North Goa District

The District Magistrate of North Goa District has issued a prohibitory order, effective from 06:00 a.m. to 07:00 p.m. on May 7, 2024. The order encompasses several restrictions aimed at maintaining peace and order during the polling process.


According to the directive, all establishments including restaurants, bars, eateries, tea shops, pan shops, and other food joints situated in urban areas under Municipal Jurisdiction, within 100 meters of the polling station, are mandated to remain closed during the specified date and time.


Similarly, in rural areas under Village Panchayat jurisdiction, establishments such as restaurants, bars, tea shops, pan shops, eateries, and other food joints, including dhabas and gaddas, within 200 meters of the polling station are instructed to cease operations during the specified period.


Furthermore, to ensure the smooth conduct of the electoral process, the District Magistrate has prohibited any gathering or crowd comprising more than 5 persons within 200 meters of any polling station throughout the entirety of North Goa District.


Exceptions to these restrictions are granted to public servants on duty, bona fide marriage or funeral processions, and religious processions/functions. Additionally, authorized officers on election duty by the Election Commission or the State Government, including polling officials, magistrates, police officials, and government staff, are exempt from the order.


The District Magistrate has cautioned that failure to comply with this order shall incur penal action under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code and other relevant provisions of laws in force. 


Citizens are urged to cooperate with the authorities and adhere to the stipulated guidelines for the smooth conduct of the electoral process in North Goa District.
