Neel Acharya, a student at Purdue University in Indiana, US, has been tragically discovered dead on campus after being reported missing since Sunday (Jan 28), as confirmed by local media reports. The Tippecanoe County Coroner's Office responded to a call at 500 Allison Road in West Lafayette, finding the lifeless body of the college-aged male, later identified as Acharya.
In an email to the university's computer science department, interim CS head Chris Clifton conveyed the sombre news of Acharya's untimely demise, expressing condolences to friends, family, and all affected. Neel Acharya, a double major in computer and data science at the John Martinson Honors College of Purdue University, was well-regarded within the academic community.
Acharya's disappearance was first highlighted by his mother, Gaury Acharya, on social media, seeking information from the public. The Consulate General of India in Chicago assured support, stating they were in contact with Purdue University authorities and Neel's family.
This tragic incident follows the recent death of another Indian student, Vivek Saini, 25, who was brutally beaten to death with a hammer in Georgia. The assailant, identified as 53-year-old Julian Faulkner, attacked Saini, who had reportedly been providing shelter and assistance to the homeless man, in the city of Lithonia.
