On Sunday, rain poured over several parts of Assam's Dibrugarh, offering respite to locals from the sweltering heat and lowering the city's temperature.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts light rain accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds in some areas of Assam on May 5. Additionally, in a special bulletin, the IMD cautioned of rainfall activity and strong winds with thunderstorms sweeping across the state from May 6 to May 7.

The Met Office issued a statement, "Thunderstorms and lightning, accompanied by gusty winds reaching speeds of 50-60 Kmph, are expected at isolated places over Assam on May 5. Heavy to very heavy rain is forecasted in isolated areas across Assam on May 6 and May 7." Furthermore, the IMD anticipates light to moderate rain across most areas of the state between May 6 and May 9.

Earlier this month, heavy rainfall in the hill district of Dima Hasao triggered flooding and landslides across Assam. Haflong Town, among the affected areas, experienced flooding, disrupting railway services due to landslides between Jatinga-Lampur and New Harangajao.

Sabyasachi De, CPRO of Northeast Frontier Railway, reported an overflow of water and mud on railway tracks in certain regions. The overflowing Haflong Lake inflicted damage to nearby residences and roads. Consequently, the District Commissioner and Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority urged the Chief Executive Officer of Haflong Municipal Board to clear drains and release lake water directly into them. A report outlining actions taken was requested within three days.
