Santhosh Kumar Jha, an Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS) officer of the 1992 batch, has officially taken over the reins as the new Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) of the Konkan Railway Corporation Limited (KRCL). His appointment to this esteemed position was confirmed on November 1, 2023, following a rigorous selection process.

Bringing with him a wealth of experience spanning 28 years in Operations, Infrastructure Planning, and Business Development, Jha's career trajectory has been marked by significant contributions to the railway and logistics sectors. Before assuming the role of CMD, he served as the Director of Operations and Commercial at KRCL.

Jha's professional journey includes notable positions such as Head of Operations in major railway divisions, leadership roles in significant business units within the logistics sector, and an Executive Director position at CONCOR.

The Public Enterprise Selection Board (PESB) recently endorsed Jha's candidacy for the CMD position at KRCL, affirming his capabilities and vision for the organization. Currently serving as the Director of Operations & Commercial at KRCL, Jha's elevation to the CMD position is pending requisite clearance and approval from the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC).

Upon assuming office, Jha wasted no time in outlining his vision for the future of Konkan Railway. Addressing the media on pre-monsoon preparations, he unveiled ambitious plans aimed at enhancing passenger experiences and expanding the corporation's footprint.

"Konkan Railway will introduce lake view restaurants at Karmali station and rent-a-bike facilities at Margao and other key stations," stated Santosh Kumar Jha, CMD of Konkan Railway Corporation.

In addition to these passenger-centric initiatives, Jha also highlighted the corporation's endeavors beyond Indian borders. "We have secured operations and maintenance contracts for DEMU trains in Nepal and the Navi Mumbai Metro. Furthermore, discussions are underway for potential collaborations in Kenya," he revealed, underscoring KRCL's global ambitions under his leadership.
