Age is just a number to cast a vote is what the senior citizens across Goa said who physically arrived at the the polling stations to cast their vote for the ongoing Lok Sabha Elections 2024. Braving the summer heat and their age, most of the senior citizens were assisted by their families as they were unable to walk by themselves.

Goa along with other states in India are bracing themselves for the Phase III Lok Sabha elections 2024, the election commission, police force and the public are in full swing to celebrate the festival of democracy on Tuesday.

The Election Commission of India had initiated a drive of door-to-door voting for senior citizens and people with disabilities which was held using ballot papers. The drive was a huge success. Despite being aware of the facility, some senior citizens chose to physically walk to the polling station to cast their vote. They expressed happiness and contentment as they were able to exercise their voting power.

On the other hand, senior citizens had to wait for 2 hours to cast their vote at Aquem. No facilities for senior citizens were provided at the polling centres in Adarsh School, Malbhat. The senior citizens expressed discontent and annoyance over the long wait.

Polling stations across the state witnessed a moderate voter turnout of 13.02 % till 9 am. Goa’s Chief Election Commission officer urged the citizens of Goa to participate in this election and to vote for the right candidate.
