In a catastrophic incident, a short circuit occurred in a transformer at Porvorim Chogam Road. The electricity department immediately reached the spot and repaired the transformer. Concerned locals raised questions over the haphazard works done by the department, with wires dangling outside the transformer.

On Monday late at night, due to a short circuit, a transformer near Porvorim Chogam Road caught fire and all the wires were damaged extensively. The incident happened on Monday late night at around 9.30 p.m. A local who witnessed this incident live recorded the entire incident showing the intensity of the fire.

Locals upon noticing the fire immediately informed the JE and AE of the local electricity department. The electricity engineers swiftly showed up and repaired the transformer. Fortunately, no lives were endangered as there was no one around the transformer when the incident took place.

On the other hand, the electricity department's haphazard work has left the locals concerned.  “If you look at the transformer carefully, you’ll see that all the wires are left outside. All the wires are taped and left in the open. This area has no warning signboard or anything that can alert the locals that this is a dangerous place. This is the busiest place as people take an evening stroll and many stray animals like dogs or cows come here to graze. Knowing that this is the busiest place these wires are kept open. In case anything happens then who will be responsible?” said a local.

The locals urged the concerned government authorities to investigate the matter as the wires can hurt a human or stray cattle.
