Two held for assaulting tourist from Maharashtra in Anjuna, Goa

he Anjuna police have arrested two persons for allegedly assaulting a Maharashtra tourist. A distress call was received from the Police Control Room at 10 pm informing that a fight was going on near Anjuna Petrol Pump. A team led by PI Prashal Dessai visited the site immediately and found a tourist from Maharashtra was injured and the car was found damaged.

The complainant stated that two unknown persons came on a bike and restrained the complainant and the injured that was identified as Omkar Upwane. The accused allegedly assaulted the complainant with stones and cement bricks over his head, thereby causing serious injuries and damaging the car of the complainant.

The motive behind the attack was that the complainant overtook the motorcycle of the accused persons to which the accused rider and co-rider got annoyed and assaulted them. The police registered an FIR u/s 341, 352, 504, 427, 308 r/w 34 IPC upon the complaint of the injured person’s friend.

Anjuna Police Station examined the CCTV footage from the area, collected local intelligence, and zeroed down on two suspects. The suspects have been identified as 25-year-old Viraj Parsekar from Khairat Camurlim and 29-year-old Siddhant Khorjuvekar from Vagalim Camurlim who were arrested within two hours. Both accused persons were produced before the JMFC, Mapusa. The accused have been remanded to 3 days of Police Custody.
