 Remembering tiatr artistes of yore 

PANJIM: ‘Somplelea Tiatristancho Ugddas’ a special programme is organized by the Tiatr Academy of Goa, every month to remember tiatr artistes who have passed away. Tiatr artistes who are born in the month of June ~ Souza Ferrao, Tony Fernandes, Jephsis Hitler, Reginaldo Fernandes, C P Dias, Antonio D’Souza alias A K D’Souza, Ulhas Buyao, Romeo Mendes, Anthony Gonsalves and Joao Aurelio Chico D’Costa will be remembered will be remembered. Osvi S C L Viegas and William Fernandes well known tiatr personalities will speak on the occasion and will highlight the works of these artistes. The programme will be held on June 20 at 4 pm at TAG’s conference hall Campal Trade Centre, Campal.

 

Sangli native dies in Pernem mishap

PERNEM: A 60-year-old native of Sangli-Maharashtra died in a road accident at Maplem slope in Pernem. According to Pernem Police, the driver of the jeep (MH-SP-5059), which was proceeding from Patradevi to Malpem, lost control of the vehicle and went on the wrong side of the road and crashed. One Dada, sustained serious injuries, and later succumbed. PSI V Chodankar is investigating the case.

 

Club India to be launched 

PANJIM: Club Goa and Gracias Group (India) Chairman Shawn Gracias met the Union Minister of State for Tourism Dr K Chiranjeevi and presented the company’s interest in replicating the ‘Club Goa’ tourism model across the country.

Various issues were discussed including scope and success of the Club Goa model and its implementation across India via a new product ~ Club India. The Union ministry expressed its interest in supporting the initiative. Gracias also detailed the basic project road-map for the launch and success of the Club India concept. 

 

Copper pots stolen at Merces

OLD GOA: Two copper pots worth about Rs 20,000 were stolen from a storeroom at Mestabhat-Merces. According to Old Goa Police, Alodia Soares of Merces complained that between June 16 and 18, some persons entered her storeroom by breaking the lock of the door and decamped with two copper pots worth about Rs 20,000. PSI R Shirodkar is investigating the case.

 

Theft at Karaswada IDC

PORVORIM: Radiators and other items worth Rs 60,000 were stolen from a servicing centre at IDC Karaswada-Tivim. According to Mapusa Police, Tollert Frank of Chimbel-Ribandar complained that some persons stole two radiators and bar of a front and loader of tractors, worth Rs 60,000 from the service centre at Goa Tractor Tillers, IDC Karaswada-Tivim. Head Constable V Teli is investigating the case.

 

Tito’s lane to be reopened

CALANGUTE: Calangute MLA Michael Lobo has assured residents of Saunta Vaddo-Baga that Tito’s lane will be thrown open to the general public.

The re-opening of the lane will give some sort of solace to residents of the area who had even organized a peace protest at the entry point of the lane a few days back and even took the matter to Chief Minister and other authorities.

“Residents had been approaching me time and again to re-open the Tito’s lane for general public. I have assured them to look into the matter and consider re-opening the Tito’s lane provided security guards and traffic police personnel are deployed along the lane,” Lobo told Herald. “An armed police personnel is however required at the entrance point of Tito’s lane to take care of any security threat,” added Lobo.

Lobo along with Calangute Panch Joseph Sequeira is likely to assess the situation and decide in the matter.

 

Relief to mining affected 

PANJIM: Goa Electronics Limited (GEL) under the Chairmanship of Dattaprasad M Naik has recommended to Directorate of Mines and Geology for sanction of 2630 applications of truck owners who are affected by closure of mines in Goa.

GEL has cleared 3416 applications for financial assistance under this scheme. So far, GEL has received approximately 6500 applications from mining trucks for relief and remaining applications are expected to be cleared off by the end of June. 

 

Bharatanatyam workshop at Margao

PANJIM: Kalanjali and Guru Deeptha Rubasundaram invites all students of Bharatanatyam for a workshop on strengthening and exploring mental focus and creativity in Bharatanatyam conducted by Anandi Rao from Texas USA at Ravindra Bhavan, Black Box, Margao, on June 23, between 9 am and noon.

 

São João at Socorro

PANJIM: Socorro Socio-Art and Cultural Association (SSACA), is hosting a proactive festival to encourage youth to showcase their skills and keep alive Goa's traditions on June 24 from 4 pm to 6.30 pm at Carrem Vaddo in Socorro called ‘Socorro Sons-in-law São João-2013.’

Young performers of Socorro will sing, dance, act and entertain with remixes of traditional São João melodies to the beat of traditional gumotts and kottios.

 

Forms to book KA hall available

PANJIM: The Kala Academy will be allotting the dates under quarterly reserve quota to writers/directors/producers/contractors of tiatr /drama and organizer of cultural programme for allotment of available dates on Saturday and Sunday for booking the Dinanath Mangeshkar Kala Mandir for the quarter from July 2013 to September 2013. The application form may be collected from the office of Kala Academy and may be submitted by June 20. The lots for the allotment of dates shall be drawn on June 24 at 11 am in the office of Kala Academy.

 

Lecture on RTI Act 

PANJIM: The Institute Menezes Braganza, Panjim, in collaboration with Goa  RTI Forum has organized lecture on ‘Implementation of Section 4 of  RTI Act by Dr Anupam Saraf on June 22at 3.30 pm. Dr Saraf, internationally acclaimed speaker will also hold an interactive session with the participants.

 

Sao Joao festivities at Vasco

VASCO: Sea Side Boys of Kharewado, Vasco Da Gama, in association with NRB Group will organise its 4th Sao Joao Bash Rain Dance-2013 at St Andrew’s Sports Club, Pixem Dongre, behind State Bank of India, Vasco, on June 24 at 11 am.

Bands Black Slades (Delhi fame), Humane Status and DJ Kim and DJ Rohan will also feature. KTC Chairman and Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida will be the chief guest, while Velim MLA Benjamin Silva and NRB Group Chairman and MD Narayan Bandekar will be the guest of honour, states the press note.

 

Umbrellas distributed to children 

PANJIM: On the occasion of 15th Foundation of the Nationalist Congress Party, Nazir Beig, Minority Chairman-Goa State has organized a function on June 16, at 4.30 pm at Volaulekar Colony, Muslim Wada, Bicholim. Umbrellas were distributed to needy and poor students.

Nilkanth Halarnkar addressed the gathering and assured to extend assistance to the needy and poor students from Nationalist Congress Party. 

 

17 hurt as buses collide at Curti

PONDA: A 45-year-old passenger from Priol was seriously injured, while 17 others escaped with minor injuries when two buses collided head-on at Pisgal-Curti, Ponda, on Wednesday afternoon.

According to Ponda Police, the accident occurred at about 3.25 pm when the bus (GA-01-W-4051), which was proceeding from Ponda to Savoi-Verem, collided with an oncoming bus (GA-01-W-4143).

A passenger, Ankush Satarkar, was admitted to Goa Medical College Hospital in Bambolim, while 17 passengers from both the buses were discharged after medication at Ponda Sub District Hospital.

 

Farmers given free fertilizers

SANGUEM: The Timblo Minerals Pvt Ltd as part of its continuing community-building services in Uguem-Sanguem, provided fertilisers to needy farmers in the village.

Fertiliser bags were distributed to farmers at a function organised by Uguem Farmers Club. About 34 farmers cultivating paddy in the nearby areas were provided with the fertiliser bags free of cost.

Speaking to Herald, Uguem Farmers Club President Francisco Carvalho has thanked Timblo Minerals for their service to the society, particularly the farmers from Uguem by providing the much-needed fertiliser bags.

 

Ex-Servicemen contact programme

PANJIM: Ex-servicemen contact programme will be conducted by the Department of Sainik Welfare on June 23 at 10.30 am at the conference room of the office of the Deputy Collector and SDO, Ponda Sub-Division. 

Ex-servicemen and widows will be briefed on various schemes, welfare benefits and other concessions introduced and provided by the Department of Sainik Welfare, State and Central government. 

 

Trek to Vavurla village

PANJIM: The Youth Hostels Association of India, Margao unit, will organize a trek from Gokulde (Quepem) to Vavurla village in Canacona taluka and visit Baman Budo waterfall on June 23. The participants will leave Margao by special bus at 8.30 am from KTC bus stand and will return the same evening. Governor lauds activities of GRCS

PANJIM: The newly-elected members of the Indian Red Cross Society, Goa State for three year term from 2013-2016 called on the Governor, Bharat Vir Wanchoo who is the ex-officio President of the Society.

The Governor suggested the drawing up a calendar of year-long activities of the Red Cross by involving all the talukas as focal points.

The members included Gaurish M Dhond, Chairman, R K Pikale, Vice Chairman, Mario Pinto De Santana and members Manguerish Pai Raikar, Gangaram Morajkar, Chandrakant Gawas and Dr Suvarna Fonseca e Antao. The member appraised the Governor on the activities of the society. Shashikant Gaitonde, General Secretary, IRCS accompanied the members.

 

Healthy Living course 

PANJIM: The Career and Personal Counseling Centre of Chowgule College has announced a new course in Healthy Living which begins on July 1. It has been introduced as part of the Honours Programme in Lifestyle Management and will cover aspects of healthy living which include fitness, diet, exercise, grooming, and simple household remedies. The programme will be conducted by Dr Medha Bakhle ~ diet, Dr Devashish Bagchi ~ fitness and exercise, Harshita Saxena ~ personal grooming and Dr Joy Pereira ~ household remedies.
