AAP stands tall in CLEAN test?

Herald thanks its readers for the overwhelming response to the paper’s Corruption Meter. We publish the first round of readers’ responses

Of natty netas and false promises

No party has ever kept their promises. They (netas) are all known for taking U-turns. Corrupt candidates are being presented as the faces of various constituencies. They have no intention of fulfilling their promises. Promises are just an eye-wash to fool the voters. Their greed for power is so strong, that they forget all the promises soon after elections. Promises are made only to be forgotten! It is like the donkey and the carrot. The donkey never gets even closer to the carrot, forget eating it.       Sarah Anne, Chinchinim

AAP is only party with zero tolerance to corruption

Congress, BJP and MGP representatives are all mostly corrupt, it is only the degree which varies, AAP is the only government which has proven zero tolerance to corruption pledge as demonstrated by the immediate sacking of a minister and MLA from the party when sufficient evidence of their unethical conduct was concluded, I have been to Delhi and seen the huge quality transformation in Government Schools and hospitals, it shows how public funds used honestly can make a world of a difference.

AAP is against corruption

AAP had sacked their minister on charges of corruption. Only AAP can save Goa

AAP is the winner!

There is no doubt that AAP would come out with flying colors. Not just because they say they will (all parties promise) –they do what they say: JO KAHA SO KIYA! None of the parties are in proximity when discussing Zero Tolerance to corruption. AAP can bring back GOA’s former glory. If one rates the parties by the Corruption Meter, it is somewhat like this: 1) Congress was leading the race. 2) BJP overtook Congress in Goa in all departments of governance. 3) MGP followed. 4) AAP needs to be tested in Goa but in Delhi they are very

strict under the direct supervision of Arvind Kejriwal and it's good for everyone.

AAP is the cleanest

I guess the most corrupt and communal party is BJP & MGP. AAP is non-corrupt as of now.

Sad reality

What do you have to say about corrupt politicians like Digambar, Mauvin, Monserrate, being given tickets?

AAP flashes light at end of the tunnel

For me, corruption is not just limited to accepting or giving bribe. Denial of justice, favoritism while allotting government jobs & contracts, denial of better healthcare, educational facilities, playing cast and religion politics is also corruption. My father was born in 1940. He feels there is no difference between the Portuguese colonial rule and MGP, Congress and BJP misrule... both have deprived Goans. But the later are like cancer.                Vishal D’Costa, Cuncolim

No Loyalty, only royalty

If the party does not give tickets to its sitting candidates, they revolt and join another party to also get ticket to contest. This proves that they are selfish, contesting election for their own benefit and not for the welfare of the voters is the prime thing on their mind. The sitting MLA of Canacona, Ramesh Tawadkar joined the MGP to contest the coming assembly election because he was denied BJP ticket. Tawadkar has exposed his  selfish side.

Hoodwinking

the voter

Much as we the citizens would want political parties to be corruption-free, it seems that in India corruption and politics are inseparable. I may sound pessimistic but that is the crux of the matter. Why would someone spend lakhs of rupees of their money and contest the elections if they cannot recover the money back and then reap a rich harvest for themselves and for their future generations? As far as political parties are concerned, the only difference, if any, is the degree of corruption that they involve in that differentiates them.

AAP is the best

I think the AAP has shown zero tolerance to corruption, the BJP and MGP are corrupt and the Congress is a lost case R.I.P (Congress)

Try the NOTA option

'Zero tolerance to corruption' is what we hear every election. Our leaders have madea huge hue and cry but have not practiced. Who likes corruption'! The answer from all will be NO. But my dear friends, have you ever not tried being corrupted or have thought of corrupting someone. Corruption is committed by politicians, even we tend of doing that. Let me give you small eg of a common man , when a traffic police catches us, the first thing that comes to our mind is to grease his palms and get away. To get a government job it is we the common man who think of paying and seeking job. This will never stop till we react. No party( Congress, AAP, BJP, MGP) can uproot this evil completely. So stop dreaming that it will stop. How about the NOTA?

Will Elvis bring back the El Dorado?

Is corruption an innate characteristic of people living in this part of the world? Are we somehow hardwired to be crooked or look the other way when corruption cannonballs into our lives? A government is supposed to do the job of a father, but we in Goa have repeatedly chosen men and women who are pirates of the worst breed, stealing from generations. Goans trusted solely in Parrikar's established track record unanimously elected the BJP to power. BUT... it was almost the same script. At the end of the regime, it was as if they (BJP) outdid the Congress at their own game. AAP may have been running around protesting every injustice fleetingly like a headless chicken, but after fielding Elvis Gomes they seem to be the last hope Goa has, save divine intervention.
