Tawadkar not in BJP 2nd list

PANJIM: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday announced its second list comprising seven candidates ahead of the Goa State Assembly elections, thus making the total tally 36. However, the election committee of the party has refused to give tickets to two sitting MLA’s Ramesh Tawadkar (Canacona) and Anant Seth (Mayem).

Meanwhile, the current sitting MLA and Sports Minister Ramesh Tawadkar has already resigned from the cabinet over non-allotment of ticket, while Anant Seth has kept options open and may even go as an independent candidate.

However, the Central Election Committee (CEC) of the BJP met today under the Presidentship of Amit Shah in which the following names were finalized Pravin Zantye (Mayem), Vishwajit K. Rane (Poriem), Satyavijay S. Naik (Valpoi), Sunil N. Desai (Ponda), Arthur D’Silva (Curtorim), Vinay Tari (Velim) and Vijay A. Pai Khot (Canacona).

Praveen Zantye who has recently joined the BJP is all set contest from Mayem and will take on Congress candidate Santosh Sawanth while former MLA Vijay A. Pai Khot would be taking on Isidore Fernandes of the Congress in Canacona Constituency.

Meanwhile, BJP has fielded Vishwajit Krishnarao Rane from Poriem which currently is represented by Pratapsingh Rane of the Congress. In Curtorim, BJP has fielded Arthur D’Silva against Congress MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco while Sunil N. Desai will contest against MGP’s sitting MLA Lavoo Mamledar.

Similarly, Vinay Tari will represent BJP from Velim constituency and Satyavijat Naik from Valpoi, a stronghold of the Congress.
