A tribute to Dr Abel and Maria Alvares Colaco

A reminder to many at Goa that have to remember that Goa was saved from having burnt to ashes towards which along with last Governor General at Goa His Excellency Vassalo D’Silva with His Excellency the Archbishop Dr. Alvarnaz and Dr. Abel Regalado Alvares Colaco.

Dr. Abel Regalado Alvares Colaco was a student at Lyceum, Hon’ble Judge of the Judicial Division of State of Goa, Secretary General to the Portuguese government, Secretarop Geral do Estado.

Dr. Abel Regalado Alvares Colaco was the first and last Goan as Secretary General to the Portuguese government who was at its peak of its career serving State of Goa with refinement that stood in solidity for its actions has carved himself to the History of Goa that was prevented from burning to ashes.

Dr Abel Regalado Alvares Colaco was well-known for its dignity with nobility of character and integrity laced with politeness and self respect. 

Dr Abel Regalado Alvares Colaco was holding the highest post in the Portuguese government to the State of Goa, that of Secretary General of State (Secretario Geral do Estado) in addition sharing the powers of His Excellency Governor General of Goa.

It is to be recollected the gallant decision of the wife of Governor General His Excellency Sr.Vassalo D’Silva, who was told to leave Goa in the month of November 1961 as all ladies were made to leave, instead chose to stand and live with Goans, but was shunted out from Cabo Niwas whereto was on the Panaji streets and was gentleman action of Dr Abel Regalado Alvares Colaco had given shelter on human and humanitarian grounds, to which his wife Maria Emilia Yvette Godinho Alvares Colaco co-operated and stood to accommodate, was to be court martialled by the Military government and took defence that all that was done was Christian charity.
