Completion of Sawalwada and Campal indoor complexes
After strings of completion delays, there are serious doubts over the completion of the two major stadiums – Indoor Stadium at Sawalwada, Pernem and Multi-purpose Indoor Hall at Campal with just three months for the Games.
The above two venues are not the only incomplete venues so far, but comparatively with the other venues, Sawalwada and Campal indoor hall are definitely a challenge for the State to complete the venues in time.
RCC (structural work) work is nearing completion at the Indoor hall Campal while structural work for roofing to start along with the internal works from 1st week of January. The venue has seen just 30 percent of its work completed and host badminton & table tennis. Meanwhile, Sawalwada which hosts weightlifting & kabaddi is also going at a slow pace and there are possibilities that the games would be shifted to the other venues.
“These two stadiums are the challenge for the state so far. I don’t think there would be another postponement but incase if the stadiums are not ready the games would be shifted to other venues,” said an official.
“The disciplines would be either shifted to Peddem or other indoor hall,” added the official.
“We shall work on the schedule and make sure to make the best use of the other indoor hall. Earlier we had experience such thing at Khelo India wherein the indoor halls were portioned to host various disciplines,” added the source.
The work at hockey ground at BBKS Peddem, Mapusa is also moving at a slow pace. While the field would be ready, the stands for the spectators to be ready in time look doubtful.
When ought to know on the same, the official added that if the stands wouldn’t be ready then they would make temporary arrangements for the same and would leave no stones unturned to make these games a success.
