Drishti has been doing the work of beach cleaning since Dec 2016 at an annual cost of Rs 7 crore. Till date the agency has collected and transported 3156940 kgs of garbage from along the state’s coast and transported the same to the Saligao waste management plant. We have received work satisfaction feedback from the Tourism department as well as stake holders on the beach and general public. The previous beach cleaning contract was awarded for Rs 14 cr per annum and the current new tender budget is also RS 12- 14 crores per annum. Thus, Drishti is doing the work for the last 2 years at half the price and has saved the Government over Rs 20 crore. There has been no enhancement of our rates to even combat basic inflation of prices. Tender for beach cleaning agency was floated by the DOT, Goa in November 2018 for which Drishti has not bid. The Government has prevailed upon us to continue the work until finalisation of the new tender. Drishti continues to work at 50% of the government estimates i.e. Rs 7cr per annum.
Other initiatives include:
2 shifts operation in hot spots Colva, Benaulim, Calangute and Baga, artbins placed along the coast, public awareness campaign #teramerabeach to educate visitors on the need to keep Goa’s beaches clean, 4x4 pickups for wet waste pickups of shacks and Beachfront commercial establishments within fixed schedules, 100% 4-way segregation system implemented for dry waste, Public grievance control number with 100% solutions to all complains registered and importantly all the above was at 50% less cost to state with no escalation in last 28 months.
