Jackie Shroff is a delight in ‘Kantaar’

Film: Kantaar

Cast: Jackie Shroff, Ester Noronha, Liby Mendonca, Alfred Fernandes, Meena Goes, Antonette de Souza, Spirit, Luis Bachan, Dominic

Writer, Director: Nilesh Malkar

Producer: Janet Noronha

Story: Drowned in countless problems by the family members, Angie (Ester Noronha) decides to commit suicide. But an unexpected encounter with Jordan Marcus (Jackie Shroff) brings in a revolution.

Review:

Angie cannot stand the thought that her younger sister Sandy is suffering from kidney failure and needs a donor to survive. After the untimely death of her husband (Alfred Fernandes), Angie’s mom (Liby Mendonca) is totally dependent on her elder daughter for financial assistance.

Thoughts of debts, illness discourage Angie and she decides to commit suicide. But Jordan Marcus, who is a musician and an insurance agent, intervenes and pacifies her.

Jordan thereafter takes Angie on a long journey of several challenges in life. While her mom accompanies Sandy in the hospital and puts up with her, Angie handles the trade of selling bread at the shop in the village.

With the timely help and guidance from Jordan, will Angie be successful in life? How does he help her to seek fame in life? How does assistance come in for Sandy’s treatment?

Konkani film ‘Kantaar’ written and directed by Nilesh Malkar and produced by Janet Noronha has a good storyline, but it could have been related in a better way, probably with a good director and direction.

The film is wrapped with twists and turns, with a convincing message to unfold. But the pet dog appears to be out of the frame and the continuous flashbacks could have been reduced. Though the film moves at snail’s pace, it has been professionally shot, with good locations and cinematography.

Ester looks bold and beautiful in the lead role, ably assisted by Bollywood actor Jackie Shroff. His timely appearances and disappearances are worth watching. As guardians, Alfred Fernandes and Liby Mendonca have done justice to their roles. Spirit as the security guard is witty. Luis Bachan, comedian Dominic, Meena Goes, Antonette de Souza and others have extended good support to the main cast.

The songs, besides the music by Aaditya Barve incorporated in the film are appealing to the ears and hummable.
