PANJIM: Reuben Colaco, student of Loyola HS Margao defeated Aryan Raiker on the top board in the final round to score 7 ½ pts from 8 rounds to remain undefeated throughout the tournament thus to clinch the State senior chess championship 2022 Title.
The turning point was when he beat the sole lead Mandar Lad in the crucial 7th round to make his task easy.
Lad Mandar beat Ayush Pednekar on the 2nd board to finish runner up and Rishikesh Parab bt Sudhakar Patgar to remain on the 3rd position. Aryan Raiker had to settle on the 4th place. The top 4 players are selected to represent Goa state for All India Nationals at New Delhi from 22nd December 2022.
The four-day Marathon Chess ended smoothly under the supervision of Chief arbiter Sanjay Kavlekar and Deputy Chief arbiters FA. Swapnil Hoble and FA Gautam Tari. The tournament attracted 72 participants from which 23 were FIDE rated players and was organised by Quepem Taluka Chess association under the aegis of Goa ad-hoc committee at the Quepem Sports complex.
