Minesh gives the Port Towners an early lead while two quick goals from Krishna and Yasir in the first half secure full points for the young Gaurs

MAPUSA: Despite dominant play, Vasco Sports Club went down to 10-man Goan Football Club by a 2-1 margin in the Goa Professional League match, organised by Goa Football Association, played at Duler Stadium, here on Tuesday.

With this three points, Goan go up to the 3rd place with 28 points from 16 matches, while Vasco continues to struggle in the bottom half with just 17 points from 17 matches.

After going down to the same opponents in the last match, Vasco coach Eban Mesquita made three changes to his side as Sushant Borkar, keeper Amit Biswas and skipper Schubert Pereira were back in the line-up, while Krishna Pandit, Isaac Negredo and Aaron D’Silva were the tree changes made by the coach Clifford Miranda in the Goan side.

Though the Goan side started on attacking note, it was Vasco who took the lead first in the 12th minute when their defender Minesh Kunkolkar fired a sparkling shot from the top of the box which finished in the goal beating the fully stretched Goan keeper Mohammad Nawaz.

A few minutes later, Goan were unlucky not to equalise in the 19th minute when Krishna sent a cross to Serineo Fernandes in the box who saw his left-footer rebounded off the goalpost.

Whereas, Franky Oliveira almost doubled the lead for Vasco when he tried his luck from the left flank but his goal-bound shot was fisted over the crossbar by Goan keeper Nawaz.

At the other end, Krishna levelled the term for the junior Gaurs in the 24th minute when he after receiving a through pass from Yasir Mohammad covered some ground dribbling past and clinically finished the ball in the back of the nylons.

With just three more minutes, Goan surged ahead in the match when their skipper Yasir made a brilliant run from the halfway line dribbling past six opponents and made no mistake to beat the keeper Amit from the top of the box to make it 2-1 for his side.

A few minutes later, Goan defender Brian Faria was sent off after referee Pandurang Korgaokar booked him for the second time in the match following his tackle on Flan Gomes near the danger area.

On changing the sides, Vasco took full advantage of Goa’s man short and completely dominated in the entire session with continues attacks but Goan's last line did a brilliant job, while their keeper Nawaz made some brilliant saves to keep every danger away from their side.

Vasco had a chance to equalise in the 51st minute when Schubert cut past two defenders and shot on the goal from the top of the box but his fierce strike went just over the crossbar.

Two minutes later, Franky had the best chance to level the terms when he was set up in the box by Schubert with a through pass but the striker failed to connect.

In the dying minutes of the match, Vasco once again came close to scoring when Flan dangerously entered the box but his weak shot was pushed for a corner by Goan keeper Nawaz.

A few minutes before this, Goans also had an opportunity to further increase their lead but the Vasco custodian Amit came up with brilliant save to deny substitute Lalawnpuia's goal-bound header off Yasir's cross.
