13 Special Goan children for World Summer Games in Berlin

PANJIM: Thirteen 'Special' sportschildren from Goa form part of the Indian team participating in 2023 Special Olympics World Summer Games, Berlin from June 17-25.

They will play in unified football (male and female), futsal (male), athletics (male and female), roller skating (female), basketball (male and female), judo (male and female), powerlifting (female), unified volleyball (male and female) and handball.

A send-off for the participants was given by the State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities in collaboration with Special Olympics Bharat and Sanjay Centre for Special Education on Saturday. The function was attended by Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant, Social Welfare Minister Subhash Phal Dessai, State Commissionner for Persons with Disabilities Guruprasad Pawaskar, Victor Vaz, National Sports Director, Special Olympics Bharat and Taha Haaziq, Secretary Office, Commission for Persons with Disabilities.

The Chief Minister congratulated the participants, and appreciated the work being done by the State Commission for Persons with Disabilities in Goa which he said was applauded all over the country.

"Purple Fest which was held last year for the first time in Goa was successful and was highly appreciated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The government will provide all help to children with special needs to excel in academics and sports," added Dr Sawant.
