OLD GOA: The FC Goa dev team romped to a 4-0 win over Lonestar Kashmir in their 2nd Division League game here at the Ella Ground in Goa, on Tuesday.

Aaren D’Silva starred for the young Gaurs with two goals whilst Meldon D’Silva and Lalawmpuia got on the scoreboard as well.

The young Gaurs looked in control of the game to begin with and created their first big opportunity in the 16th minute when Sarineo Fernandes went down the left and put in a brilliant cross. Kapil Hoble nodded it down for the onrushing Lalwampuia but the lad from Mizoram hesitated in pulling the trigger and the chance was gone.

Hayden Fernandes tested the keeper 10 minutes later directly from a free-kick. His effort, however, didn’t have enough venom as the keeper gathered easily. The 39th minute saw Kapil Hoble being hacked to the ground by Mohammad Asrar in the Kashmir penalty box. To the amaze of many, the referee waved play on.

Goa didn’t have to wait too long for the opener though. Aaren D’Silva was played in on goal seconds later and the forward made no mistake in slotting the ball past the onrushing keeper to give the Gaurs the lead.

The second half started in the same vein with the FC Goa Dev team having a tight leash on the proceedings. Their incessant pressure finally paid off in the 57th minute when Meldon got them the second. The centre-back had gone up following a foul on Kapil on the right wing. Hayden Fernandes swung in a delightful cross from the resulting free-kick which Meldon flicked on into the goal after meeting the delivery at the near post.

The 68th minute saw Goa finally go 3-0 up. A ball over the top from Hayden found Aaren in stride. The lanky forward spotted the keeper rushing off his line and lobbed the ball brilliantly to get his second of the game.

The final dagger of the game was put in by Lalawmpuia in the 73rd minute. The forward made brilliant to turn his man in the box before curling the ball off the outside of the boot and into the back of the net.

This was the developmental team’s third win in 5 games. They currently sit second in Group A, 4 points behind Bengaluru FC. They will be back in action on March 24 when they take on ARA FC. The game is scheduled for a 3:45 p.m. kick-off at the Ella ground.
