AMBELIM: Ambelim Queens defeated Chinchinim Angels 2-0 to clinch the Sevens Women’s Football Festival organised by Goa Sevens and Ambelim Sports Club played at Ambelim Sports Complex, Ambelim on Wednesday.

Karishma Shirvoikar scored a brace for the winners.

Ambelim Queens came into the final as strong contenders having won all their league games with impressive wins. On the other side, Chinchinim Angels won four games having lost one to the opponents Ambelim Queens.

Ambelim Queens began striking early on as Nevilla Coalco managed to move past two Chinchinim Angels defenders but her fine placing shot went wide from the target.

At the other post, Valenie Fernandes shot on target but an alert diving save denied Chinchinim Angels the opener.

Ambelim Queens took the lead 10 minutes into the game as Nevilla’s shot on target off a free kick was mishandled by the opposition keeper Joseline D’Souza as Karishma Shirvoikar neatly tapped it in from close to make it 1-0.

Finding themselves a goal down, Chinchinim Angels kept trying as Valenie’s curling long ranger went inches away from the cross bar as the Queens went into the half with a goal advantage.

The second half saw Chinchinim Angels try hard to find a goal as Valenie and Marlat displayed good passing and the former came close to scoring yet again but her shot was well caught by the Ambelim keeper Atsrid Pereira who was at her best coming under a series of attacks from the Chinchinim forward line.

Nothing seemed to have been stopping the tournaments leading goal scorer Karishma as she doubled the sides lead with a fine low shot into the nets as they won the final 2-0.

The prizes were handed over by chief guest Dr Ira Almeida, Head Nurse at Hospicio Hospital in the presence of guest of honour GFA President Elvis Gomes, Keenan Almeida, Adil Khan and Brendon Fernandes and other dignitaries.
