ANJUNA: Assnora United beat Goa Velha SC 3-2 via tie-breaker in the final of the Anjuna Gymkhana Platinum Jubilee Cup played at Anjuna Gymkhana on Sunday.

In the 20th minute, Goa Velha drew the first blood with a fine volley from Chandan Gawas which gave the goalkeeper no chance to save. Assnora’s Sahil fired a shot from long distance at the target but the keeper calmly grabbed the ball.

In the second half, Assnora United started pressing high which made opposition’s defence line unstable. This playing style got them the equaliser through Chetan Shirodkar who precisely placed his shot at the bottom left corner of the goal.

In the tie-breaker, Stanley and Chatur scored for Goa Velha whereas Sahil, Prajyot and Rahul were at target for Assnora United.

Vinod Palyekar was the chief guest and gave away the prizes to the winners and runners-up in the presence of Buddhadev Mangaldas and other dignitaries.

The following were awarded individual prizes: Saprem Diukar (1st goal of tournament), Chetan Shirodkar, (last goal of tournament, Assnora), Sanij Bugde (best goalkeeper, Assnora), Akash Kudnekar (best defender, Assnora), Chatur Naik (best forward). St. Anthony Marna won the best discipline team award.
