
PANJIM: BITS Pilani edged past Chicalim Sports Club 3-2 in the GFA Second Division League at BITS Pilani ground, on Thurday.
BITS led 2-0 at the break, with Aditya Gurjar and Neel Bhandari getting on the score sheet for the winners.
In the second-half, the teams continued from where they had left from and soon BITS consolidated their lead through Aryan Travedi at the hour mark. When it looked like the home side would walk away with the three points, Chicalim pressed in the final-quarter and pulled two goals back through Elroy Fernandes who scored in the 70th and 89th minutes to complete his brace.
In another match at Jai Kissan ground, Sancoale, United Youth Club of Bogmalo were lucky to carve out a 5-4 victory over Mormugao United in the round 1 match.
The teams were locked 2-2 at half-time. In a seesaw battle, Ryan Vaz put Bogmalo ahead in the 7th minute. The lead was short-lived as Jose Lucas equalised for Mormugao. It was Bogmalo who took the lead again in the 14th minute through a great goal by Sagar Shirodkar. Mormugao's made it 2-2 at the half-hour mark when Uday Naik sent in a defence-splitting pass to Christo D’Mello who finessed it past the keeper.
Crossing over, Mormugao's Manju Kelour put his side ahead scoring from a goal mouth melee.
Jose Lucas came rushing in to score the fourth goal for Mormugao. Bogmalo did not give up and soon found the winner in the dying minutes of the game. Jolivon Miranda scored a brace and when it looked like the teams would settle for a draw, Ryan Vaz scored a beautiful goal in injury time of the second-half to bag all three points for his side.
At Agassaim ground, Young Boys of Tonca registered a solitary goal win over Aivao Youth Club. Amlesh Shirdokar scored the lone goal of the game in the dying minutes of the game. Meanwhile, at Ambelim ground, Guirdolim Club came from behind to down Carmel Sports Club 2-1.
Carmel SC took the early lead in the third minute through Lerinius Carvlaho. However, Guirdolim Club made it all square at the half-hour mark through Ryan Fernandes. The teams were tied 1-1 at the break. Crossing over, Guirdolim Club put up a better team performance and took the lead in the 73rd minute through Rimon Fernandes, which proved to be the match-winner.
