Bardez Veterans emerge victorious

ASSOLNA: Bardez Veterans defeated VIVA North Veterans 5-3 via the tie-breaker to clinch the Assolna Veterans trophy in the final of the Assolna Veterans football tournament played at SAG ground, Assolna, on Sunday. 

Bardez Veterans’ Alexander Fernandes had the first best chance of the match in the third minute but the VIVA North keeper saved it brilliantly. 

At the other end, VIVA through Ramesh Palkar should have found the ball at the back of the Bardez net but the latter’s goal bond shot was denied by the cross bar in the 6th minute.

As the match progressed in the 10th minute, VIVA North’s Pascoal Pereira after foxing a couple of  defenders pulled his trigger and released a power-packed shot but hit the Bardez side netting.

With two minutes left for the final whistle, Pascoal Pereira equalised for VIVA North with a snap shot. 

In the tie-breaker, Bardez Veterans netted through Bruno Coutinho, Narendra Gaad, Alexander Fernandes and Mohan Parab while for VIVA North Alex Alvares and Ravi Pednekar scored.

The winners were awarded Rs. 25,000 while the runners-up received Rs. 20,000 plus trophies.

Individual prizes were awarded to:  Best goalkeeper Domnic D’Souza (Bardez veterans), Best striker Pascoal Pereira (VIVA veterans), Best defender Ramesh Palkar (Viva Veterans).

Benjamin Silva ex-FIFA Referee was the chief guest and gave away the prizes to winners and runners up in the presence of Ivan Fernandes, Seby Crasto, George Crasto and Michael Fernandes and other dignitaries and club officials.
