PANJIM: Beevan D’Mello made a huge statement scoring on his debut for Vasco Sports Club and guiding his team to a 2-0 win over Calangute Association in the Selvel Goa Professional League at Duler Stadium, Mapusa, on Saturday.

The former Dempo striker, who later turned manager of the senior team switched sides during the one-month break, to get back to playing and showed he still got time to hang the boots. Beevan put his side ahead in the 43rd minute before Savlon Fernandes sealed full points for his side scoring deep in the stoppage time.

In the 43rd minute, on being rewarded a free kick, Vasco’s Karan sent in a perfect free kick in the area where Beevan was in the right place at right time. The striker headed into the goal from the second post giving no chance for the rival keeper.

Though the winners led 1-0 at the break, Calangute Association were better of the two sides in the first 45 minutes. While Calangute Association enjoyed better possession, Vasco had to rely on the counters.

Vasco SC were finally rewarded for their constant pressing as they scored their second win the 90+ minutes. Beevan D’Mello played a long ball to Savlon, who got into the area, and with just the keeper, coolly converted to make it 2-0 and seal full points for the Port Towners.
