Chandan nets a brace as they beat 10-man Goan Warriors 5-1

MAPUSA: Bidesh XI emerged champions of the GFA`s 3rd Division Bardez Zone with a thumping 5-1 win over Goan Warriors Sports Club, organised by Goa Football Association, at Duler Stadium, here on Thursday.

Chandan Narilkar scored a brace while Vishal Salgaocar, Gaurish Bugde and Chandan Govenkar netted a goal each with all the goals coming in the second half of the play. Earlier, Creig Menezes gave Goan Warriors a first half lead.

“I’m very proud of my boys and entire credit goes to them for their tremendous efforts throughout the league and knockouts. We had a nervy first half and were even a goal down, but the boys put up a great show in the second half to overturn the game, with a huge margin, in our favour,” said Bidesh XI coach Severino Fernandes.

“I would like to thank our club president Rajesh Salgaocar for his unending support and his belief in me,” Severino.

Bidesh XI who were in total control of the match received a jolt in the 30th minute when Craig Menezes put Goan Warriors ahead with a neat placement from a cross by Chetan Shirodkar.

Crossing over, Coach Severino’s pep talk changed the Bidesh XI game as they looked more sharp and meant business on the pitch. The final 45 minutes witnessed goals, tackles, cautions as well as expulsions

Backed by a strong support, Bidesh levelled terms in the 54th minute through Gauresh Kankonkar who provided finishing touches to a wonderful free-kick taken by Chandan Govekar

Bidesh consolidated their lead from an own goal by Warrior`s Akshay Dabolkar who in process of clearing an header from Chandan Narulkar saw the ball travel into his own nets, 2-1

From then Warriors lost their way and conceded three more goal in the last ten minutes with Chandan Narulkar getting his second while substitute Gaurish Bugde and Chandan Govenkar also found the nets to end a disappointing day for the Warriros.
