DANDO-BENAULIM: CDJ Ribandar registered a solitary goal victory over Cuncolim Union to enter the last four of the 11th Cana Benaulim Panchayat Cup soccer tournament organsied by United Club Benaulim, at St John Baptist ground, Dando-Benaulim, on Tuesday.

Although CDJ Ribandar appeared to be the strong side they were slow off the blocks and Cuncolim took the initiative to attack but striker Daulat Dessai missed two sitters with the match just passing the eight minute mark.

Ribandar were force to defend deep with Cuncolim medio Clifton Fernandes feeding the strikers with fine passes.

Ribandar made the first real attack in the 25th minute as strikers Devendra Murgaonkar, Shaikh Saliya, and midfielders Vikram Belekar and Gautam Dias all saw their efforts hitting the woodwork.

The second session belonged to Ribandar with playmaker Sachin Gawas effortlessly finding the gaps in the Cuncolim rearguard but the all important goal eluded them.

Ribandar's persistent efforts were finally rewarded with two minutes remaining for the final whistle when Vikram Belekar sent in a high free-kick into the danger zone where Ribnardar skipper Latesh Kunkolkar controlled well before rounding the rival goalkeeper Vicky Niaik to slot into the empty net.

CDJ Ribandar will now clash with St Anthony Assolda in the semis on June 13.
