MAPUSA: A 94th minute goal by Krishnanath Shirodkar helped Calangute Association to register a hard fought 3-2 win over Guardian Angel Sports Club in the Goa Professional League played at Duler stadium, here, on Saturday.
Both the teams having lost their last league match came into the match all focused to return home with a win.
However, it was the Beachside lads that took an early third minute lead where a rasping shot by Sidharth Kundaikar was too hot for keeper Ram Saroop to collect to find U-20 Siddhant Shirodkar tap the ball into the goal.
Both the teams then played almost on equal footing with Angel's U-20 Yunal Fernandes’ weak strike from inside was collected by keeper Paramveer Singh and minutes later Beneston Barretto saw his placement from close went just past the goal post.
At the other end, Calangute had two more chances to further increase their lead but U-20 Chaitan Dabholkar’s efforts was smartly blocked for a corner by keeper Ram Saroop while Siddhant failed to keep his shot on target from close.
In the injury time, Angel's almost levelled terms where Beneston Barretto collecting a through pass from substitute Arif Pathan moved inside the penalty box but only to find keeper Paramveer bring a breath taking save.
Calangute Association scored one of the fastest goals in the second session when the game was just 30 seconds old. A long throw in by Nickson Castanha was collected by Kouame Junior who in turn passed it to Chaitan who squared it to Siddhant Shirodkar who beat the onrushing keeper with an adroit placement to make it 2-0
Angel's reduced the margin in the 54th minute where Beneston controlled a long ball from Leny Fernandes and drilled a shot at the goal which was blocked by keeper Paramveer with Basanta Singh scoring off the rebound to make it 2-1.
In the last ten minutes before the end of the regulation time and Angel's netted their equaliser.
Beneston's shot was paired by keeper Paramveer which travelled to skipper Gilbert Oliveira who connected the ball with a scorching right footer which crashed into the back of the nylons.
In the next minute, Angel's Doyal Alves’ header missed narrowly while Calangute's Krishnanath’s header off a corner was brilliantly saved by keeper Ram Saroop.
When it looked that the teams were heading for a draw in the five minutes of stoppage time a 30-yard free kick by Nickson Castanha rebounded off the crossbar to defender Krishnanath Shirodkar whose header zoomed into the far corner of the goal, 3-2 to give victory to his team.
