MAPUSA: Calangute Association who edged past Salgaocar FC with a solitary goal after scoring from the spot kick at Duler, completed their 18 minutes of the pending time, finished third with 20 points.
Salgaocar FC also ended their campaign on 20 points, but since Calangute Association had a better head-to-head record, the beach side boys finished in top three.
The Green Brigade who were also in contention for the League title went all out in search of the equaliser and winning goal, but the stubborn defense posed by the Beachside held to their one goal lead till the final whistle which saw them stand in the third position with 20 points while Salgaocar FC finished in the fourth position also with 20 points, with Dempo SC taking the third spot with 21 points.
“I would like to congratulate my team for giving their best this season and finishing third. The boys played their hearts out throughout and defeated top teams in their run to to top three finish. We had few slip ups agains the lower ranked teams and had we had the positive results, we would have finished even higher. But overall we had a brilliant season this year and all credit to the coach, players and the coaching staff,” stated Alirio Lobo, President, Calangute Association
