PANJIM: Calangute Association edged past Corps of Signals 2-1 in the Goa Professional League match, organised by Goa Football Association (GFA), at Duler Stadium, on Monday.

Calangute started the match on an attacking note as it was just on the go as they created their first chance of the match when Joston Pereira tried his luck from the edge of the box only to see it missed the target.

A few minutes later, Calangute’s  Josley  tried an overhead shot from inside the box but Signals keeper Binu P made an excellent save to keep his side safe.

In the 25th minute, Signals’ Cyril Dias wasted an open chance to take his side on lead as the striker shot wide from inside the box after receiving a pass from Harshad Thube.

Ten minutes later, Josely was once again denied by keeper Binu as this time the striker’s strong tap off Joston’s low cross was brilliantly collected by the Signals’ keeper.

At the other end, Cyril put Signals ahead with just two minutes to half-time when his sturdy tap hit the inside of the horizontal bar before entering the goal making it 1-0 for the Army Men. Harshad was the architect of the goal as he made a swift run from his own half before curling the ball into the striker’s feet.

Calangute started the second session on the same note and made numerous attacks on the opponents and finally in the 69th minute, Domnic scored the stunner from outside the box making it all square.

Energised by the equaliser, the Beachside once again came close to scoring in the 75th minute when Myron Fernandes just had to direct the ball into the empty goal but his delayed move helped opponents to block his shot to safety.

However, a minute later, Josley made a brilliant footwork before finding the net from the close making it 2-1 for the North Goan club.

In the dying minutes of the match, Calangute had another chance to extend their lead but Omkar More’s powerful strike was brilliantly blocked by the Signals keeper Binu.
