RAIA: Canacona SCC displayed their prowess for a well-deserved win over Guirdolim Club 2-0 to secure place in the final of 26th Holy Cross inter-village football tournament played at Vodlemoll ground, Kakoda, on Thursday.
The match was a testament to the skill and determination of both teams, with each side showcaasing their attacking prowess from the onset. Despite a spirited start from Guirdolim Club, who launched several early attacks, they were unable to find the back of the net. Canacona SCC responded in kind, mounting several promising assaults of their own, but initial efforts fell short. It was in the 25th minute that the deadlock was broken, as Alvito Miranda of Canacona SCC rose above the defence to execute a flawless flying header, putting Canacona SCC in the lead.
The second half saw an intensified battle, with both teams relentlessly pursuing goals. Canacona SCC extended their lead in the 41st minute, courtesy of a thunderous strike from Chaitan, leaving the Guirdolim Club custodian with no chance.
Despite their best efforts, Guirdoalim Club struggled to breach Canacona SCC’s defence, facing resilient resistance.
