RAIA: Carmona Sports Club got the better of Raia Sporting Club 3-1 to move into the quarter-finals of 15th Davorlim Cup organised by Sporting Club of Davorlim at Davorlim panchayat ground, on Monday.
Raia Sporting Club took an early lead in the very 5th minute of the game through Garrison Fernandes’ neat placement, while Carmona Sports Club got the equaliser in the dying minutes of the first half through the boots of Christern Estibeiro.
Both teams remained 1-1 draw at the half time.
Changing over, Raia Sporting Club lost control over the game and Carmona SC took advantage and scored two more goals through the boots of Stanford Fernandes and Edvic Afonso in the 47th and 52nd minute of play but Raia SC’s Belan Gomes’ shot in the 55th minute hit the crossbar and went out of play.
At the last quarter of the match, Aaren Fernandes of Carmona SC missed the scoring opportunity. Before the final whistle, Raia SC’s Julius Oliver header missed the target by whiskers.
Edvic Afonso of Carmona Sports Club was awarded the man-of-the-match by Roy Raikar of Our Lady of Fatima Cup 2024.
Earlier, Guardian Angel SC blanked Rossman Cruz Nagoa-Verna 3-0 to enter the quarter-finals.
In an exciting quarter-final, Rossman Cruz Nagoa had the first opportunity to take the lead but Clive Fernandes missed the header in the 14th minute of play, while Norman Dias of Guardian Angel SC ran down and took powerful shoot from the box which crashed into the net in the 24th minute of play.
At half time, Guardian Angel SC were leading 1-0.
In the second session, Rossman Cruz Nagoa tried hard to find the equaliser through their strikers Roydon, Clifton and Noel, but couldn’t penetrate the rival solid rock defence of Guardian Angel SC.
Norman scored another two goals in the 44th and 56th minute of play to complete his hat-trick. Norman Dias of Guardian Angel SC was awarded the man-of-the-match award by Goldman, member of Sporting Club of Davorlim.
