RAIA: Chandor Club downed Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda, 2-0 to march into the quarter-finals of Gold Silver Rolling Trophy, at Rosary ground, Navelim, on Thursday.
Vitorino Fernandes of Chandor Club was the star of the match showcasing his dribbling skills and shooting power while Roque Borges gave his best to Don Bosco Oratory.
The rains didn’t dampen the sporting spirit of nearly 500 spectators gathered to watch the match.
Roque should have netted in the 2nd minute itself but his power-packed shot hit the Chandor cross bar and went out of play. Fate of missed chance continued as Sunny Fernandes of Chandor Club after dribbling past a couple of Don Bosco Oratory defenders shot from a close range but missed the target by whiskers in the 7th minute.
This time in the 13th minute, Sunny Fernandes didn’t repeat his mistake and scored the first goal of the match. As the match progressed in the second half, Vitorino Fernandes netted the second goal for Chandor Club in the 55th minute.
Man-of-the-match award was presented to Victorino Fernandes of Chandor Club by Andrew Ferraro, Goa Football Association Executive Member and football promoter of Cansaulim.
