PANJIM: Churchill Brothers SC made light work of Salgaocar Football Club with a 6-1 win in the Goa Football Association Goa Professional League match played at Rosary ground, Navelim, on Sunday.

Clencio Pinto and Uttam Rai scored a brace each while Nickson Castanha and Gilbert Olivera scored a goal each for the winning side. Salgaocar FC netted through Devendra Murgaonkar.

The Red Machines controlled the game from the first whistle but only could break the young Salgaocar defence at the hour mark through Nickson Castanha who smashed in yet another free kick for his side. Salgaocar dominated the play in the first 15 minutes. That was the only goal in the first half.

Crossing over, Salgaocar continued from where they had left from and pressed the Green Brigade in their own half.

In the 54th minute the Red Machines scored their second when Clencio capitalised in Uttam's deflected shot which came into his way as he showed pure class with only the keeper at his mercy.

At the hour mark, Uttam scored team's third when the rival keeper in haste to clear the ball shot straight at the former Dempo SC striker which deflected off him and entered the goal.

Just two minutes later, the Red Machines scored their forth when Clencio once again reacted swiftly to smash in Nicholas' shot which was pushed towards him by the rival keeper.

In the 78th minute, Devendra Murgaonkar pulled a goal back for Salgaocar FC. But that didn't stop Churchill Bros as they scored two more goals in the final 10 minutes of the game through Gilbert and Uttam. Clencio was the hero for his team as he came on the field at the half hour mark and was subbed off in the 70th minute.

In another match played at Signals ground, Dempo Sports Club beat Corps of Signals 2-1.

All the three goals were scored in the first session as Dempo Sports Club scored through Beevan D'Mello and Kirtikesh Gadekar while Pawan Thakur scored for Signals.
