PANJIM: Cortalim Gymkhana registered a resounding 4-1 win over Benfica Youth Club in the Goa Football Association U-14 League match played at Chicalim ground, on Friday.

Benfica, who dominated the entire first half, put up a sloppy second half display which saw them concede a heavy defeat.

Cortalim Gymkhana allowed Benfica to take control of the game as they rarely pressed their opponents and Benfica took full advantage of the same and scored the first in the second minute through Schneider Pires’ left footer strike.

Benfica enjoyed lion’s share of possession in the first half but Cortalim netted the equalising goal just before the break through Melron Gama.

Crossing over, it was all Cortalim affair as he netted three goals. Meusom Vaz gave Cortalim the lead in the 38th minute and Ruran Azavedo inflated the lead in the 41st minute.

Nesley D’Sa scored the fourth at the hour mark to overturn the game to 4-1.

Meanwhile at Pilar ground, Clube Sao Miguel de Taleigao and Ponda Footballers played out a 1-1 draw.

Despite playing end to end football, neither sides were able to break the deadlock in the first session as they walked in the breather on equal terms. Sohail Sayyed gave CSM lead in the 38th minute. Just when it looked like Taleigao would walk away with full points, Shivan Mangeshkar netted a additional time equalising goal.

It has been witnessed that the local clubs from the Mormugao zone are organising the games in a smooth manner to help in best functioning of the matches.
