BETALBATIM: Cuncolim Union shot-out Sao Jose de Areal 8-7 via the tie-breaker to lift the Betalbatim Villagers Cup, organised by Betalbatim Sports Club, at Betalbatim panchayat ground, on Sunday.
Sao Jose de Areal opened their account in the 14th minute through Sezwin Fernandes. Cuncolim Union equalised in the 29th minute through Trijoy Dias.
In the 41st minute Sao Jose de Areal took a lead through Marcus Mascarenhas.
Sao Jose de Areal increased their lead through Bersel Viegas making it 3-1 in the 44th minute.
Cuncolim Union made it 2-3 in the 60th minute through Clifton Fernandes. As the match progressed, in the 70th minute Trijoy Dias levelled terms.
In the tie-breaker, Cuncolim Union netted through Errin D’Souza, Trijoy Dias, Jeston Fernandes, Franky Pereira, Tandurans Patteker while Bersel Viegas, Marcus Mascarenhas, Sezwin Fernandes and Milton Gomindes scored for Sao Jose de Areal.
Alex Sequeira MLA of Nuvem was the chief guest and gave away the prizes to the winners and runners-up in the presence of Fr Adrian Furtado parish priest of Betalbatim church, other dignitaries and club officials.
